Mail Delivery & Laundry
Facilities
United States Post Office carriers
make mail deliveries to Alumni Village apartments. This does not
include campus mail. Campus mail is not delivered to Alumni Village.
Residents receive packages at their apartments or mailbox, not at
the Alumni Village Main Office.
Washers and dryers are available in
the apartment complex. There are two laundry facilities at Alumni
Village that have FSUCard operated machines. Individually owned laundry
and dish washing equipment cannot be accommodated in Alumni Village
apartments.
Air-conditioning
Some Alumni Village apartments are
equipped with window units, but the majority of them are not. Individually
owned air-conditioning units that meet University safety and size
standards, may be installed in Alumni Village only in space provided
for this purpose. Wiring will not accommodate units requiring more
than 208/220 voltage and 20 amperes.
Residents may install their own air
conditioners after having the Alumni Village staff determine if the
unit is wired for 110/ 115 or 208/220 voltage. A vendor or other
commercial company may install air conditioners only after the unit
has been approved. Residents may have the Alumni Village staff install
air conditioners for the cost of $30 per resident-owned air-conditioner.
This charge includes removal. A few apartments are available with
university-owned air-conditioning units at an additional monthly
rent of $25 per unit. (This rate is current for the 2005-2006 academic
year.) Applicants may indicate on their applications that they prefer
an air-conditioned apartment.
If you are assigned to one of the few
air-conditioned Alumni Village apartments and prefer an apartment
without an air-conditioner you must request a within village move.
Furnishings
Most Alumni Village apartments have
single unit compact kitchens. The apartments are furnished with a
love seat (two-cushion width), side chair, dining table and four
chairs, one desk, one desk chair, one dresser, one full-size bed
and one nightstand. The second and third bedrooms are unfurnished
allowing the student to furnish as a den, extra bedroom(s), study
or nursery as desired. Window coverings are provided throughout.
All floors are tile. Residents must furnish household items other
than those mentioned above. The University does not have facilities
for storing furniture and no furniture may be removed to accommodate
a resident's own furniture.
Utilities
Rental rates do not include utilities
for Alumni Village. Utilities (gas, water, sewage, stormwater, electricity)
are purchased by the resident from the City of Tallahassee Utilities
Department. For utility information, please visit their web site
at http://talgov.com/citytlh/utilities/index.html. Alumni Village
residents must also contract independently for telephone (Sprint)
and cable (Comcast),
and internet services (Sprint, Comcast, and others). Utilities services must
be activated no later than the resident's scheduled move-in date
and remain active throughout the occupant's tenure. Occupants are
not to move into the residence prior to activating the utilities.
