I’m
All Settled In…
What can I do to help build my community?
Join your Residence Hall Government!
As classes begin and everyone looks to get involved in campus activities,
you don’t have to look any farther than your own home! Hall government
volunteers plan social events, approve the purchase of recreation, cleaning
and cooking equipment and participate in community service projects. An
ideal hall government is one that provides these services as well as gives
residents a chance to speak out and be heard on the issues that affect
every on-campus resident of Florida State University. Each hall begins
the year by electing a hall executive board. Every resident is eligible
to run for an office. Continue the leadership tradition and attend an
Election Workshop for details! Look in your hall for information during
check-in!
Not interested in holding an office?
Floor representatives are needed as well! They may be asked to vote on
money appropriation for programming and approve the use of public lounge
space for campus organizations. See your RA for more information!
What is the Inter-Residence Hall Council?
Every hall government is represented in a larger organization known as
the Inter-Residence Hall Council. The IRHC serves as an agency of the
Student Government Association. The main purpose of IRHC is to support
hall programs and activities campus wide and to represent the views of
students to University Housing, Student Government and the University
Administration. Every resident is a member of the IRHC and may volunteer
for committees, attend local and national conferences and run for office.
Each residence hall carries one vote at the weekly IRHC meetings. Some
of the upcoming IRHC traditional activities include a fall leadership
workshop, participation in homecoming activities, Hall Intramurals/Hall
Wars and Residence Hall Week.
What is the National Residence Hall Honorary?
Students who dedicate at least a semester of service to their residence
hall community and maintain a high grade point average may be selected
into the Garnet and Gold chapter of the National Residence Hall Honorary.
Chartered in 1981, the NRHH recognizes residence hall leaders who excel
in academics, leadership skills and service activities. Membership in
the Honorary is limited to the top 1 percent of all residence hall leaders.
NRHH develops programs to assist residence hall students with their academic
career and provides opportunities for involvement in the University and
the community. Each month the NRHH recognizes outstanding efforts by student
leaders and Housing employees alike, culminating in its annual Torch Awards
program at the end of the year.
