As
you move in…things to remember!
Key Distribution -
Key Distribution - Keys are issued for room and
building access. There is no charge for keys at checkin, but they must
be returned when you change rooms or vacate the building. If you lose
or fail to return keys, you are charged $25 for the room key, $10 for
the exterior key and/or $10 for the bathroom door key. Please note, Salley
Hall key replacement is charged at $35, and New Hall key replacement is
charged at $50. Jennie Murphree, Cawthon, Reynolds, Broward, Gilchrist,
Salley, Bryan, and New Hall residents, receive a student room key and
use their FSU Cards for building entry.
Care of Student
Rooms and Public Areas -
You are responsible for the care of your room and furniture. University
Housing does not provide cleaning services in student rooms. Damages,
alterations, or unauthorized use of rooms or special cleaning necessitated
by improper care of public areas, rooms or equipment, will result in financial
charges to residents. Unhooking or removing window screens is not allowed
for any reason. Report damaged screens to the Hall Manager. Removal or
damage to screens will result in financial charges to the student. Charges
for damages to public areas and equipment will be incurred to all students
assigned to separate wings, floors or within entire halls as appropriate.
Damages -
All incoming residents use Room Condition Reports to note the existing
condition of their assigned room. Damages not noted on the original when
a student vacates will result in charges to the responsible student.
Storage -
Where space is available, residents returning to the halls in the fall
may store small personal belongings that are properly boxed and tagged.
For storage arrangements contact the Hall Manager of the hall where you
will live in the fall. Storage space for carpets, lofts and bicycles is
not available. University Housing is not liable for any lost, stolen or
damaged articles that have been placed in storage. Storage of Bicycles
and Motorcycles – Daily storage for bicycles in student rooms is
available with advance permission of the roommate. During specified dates
when the halls are closed, bicycles can be stored in student rooms. Because
of the possibility of fire, at no time may motorcycles or mopeds be stored
in residence halls. Any internal combustion engine vehicle discovered
in a residence hall room will be removed and stored at the owner's expense.
Furniture -
All furniture provided by the University must remain in your room and
all lounge furnishings must remain in the public areas.
Lofts -
All residents must register their loft and construct them according to
strict safety guidelines available at the hall office. Lofts are inspected
by housing staff to ensure safety. Students will complete any repairs
or alterations necessary for the loft to meet safety standards and will
remove the loft when the student vacates the room. Failure to do so will
result in judicial action and/or a charge to remove the loft. Storage
facilities are not available for lofts.
Murals -
Hall staff must approve murals prior to the start of any painting. See
staff for details.
Nails -
Because nails cause damage to the wall, staff recommend using poster putty
or the tack rail when hanging posters and decorations.
