Residence Hall Services

Identification Cards/Activity Fees -
During check- in, you will receive a Residence Hall Identification Card. When requested, resident students must present their student I.D. or hall I.D. cards to staff members. You are also asked to contribute to the hall’s activity and equipment rental funds. These funds will be used later for social events and the purchasing of new equipment for you to use throughout the year.

Maintenance and Repairs -

To have repairs done in student rooms or public areas, see an RA or go the hall desk to fill out a maintenance repair order. Use the maintenance repair order to request extra spraying for insects. Hall Managers will post dates for health and safety inspections and air-conditioner filter changes.

Computer Labs -

University Housing computer labs are located in Smith and Cawthon Halls. Each lab provides IBM compatible and Apple Macintosh workstations and two laser printers for use by residence hall students. The labs, open daily from noon to midnight, are available only to students currently living in University residence halls. You must show your FSUCard to be admitted in these labs.

Painting -

Painting that improves the overall condition of the room is allowed in the halls. Students are responsible for the purchase of paint, and returning their room to its original condition and color.

Holiday Decorations -

Students can decorate with non-flammable decorations in their rooms. Hall staff must inspect and approve holiday lights prior to use.

Room Refrigerators -

There is a refrigerator in each student room. No other refrigerator or freezer is allowed. Residents are responsible for cleaning their refrigerator on a regular basis and before they vacate their room.

Phone Service -

Your housing contract includes local phone service. If you need a temporary phone, please see your Hall Manager. Since there is only one phone line per room we ask that you not use a phone modem to access the Internet as this will tie up the telephone line and you or your roommate may miss important calls. To call an office at Florida State you can dial 4-XXXX and for any other student living on campus just dial 3-XXXX.

Cable Service -

The Office of Telecommunications provides Basic and Digital Cable for a monthly fee. Both services include the Student Information Channel, Student Government Movie Channel and the Crime Prevention Information Network. Billing for the service begins on the day of sign-up. Call 4-2088 or go to www.otc.fsu.edu for more information.

Laundry Facilities -

Laundry rooms are only for the use of residents during designated hours and machines are operated with the FSUCard “Cash to Chip” system.

Pest Control -

If you are having problems with insects, report the problem to your front desk as soon as possible. Rooms are sprayed for insects by request only. NOTE: Help us in this service by keeping your trash cans emptied and dishes clean throughout the year!

Mail Service & Deliveries -

United States mail is delivered to the FSU Post Office in the University Union. The housing assignment invoice lists your Post Office Box number. The key for the box is issued at the Union Post Office. Deliveries from florists, United Parcel Service, FedEx, Express Mail, etc. are made to the hall office. A hall receptionist will inform you when deliveries arrive. Photo I.D. and signature are required for any items received.
