Dear Resident:
Welcome to Florida State and your residence hall community.
It is indeed a special time as you transition into one of the most exciting
chapters of your life, attending college. Some of the adjustments will
be challenging to you. At the same time, you will grow in ways you many
not have expected through the sense of community that you and your neighbors
will develop throughout the course of the academic year.
The residence hall community can become a very strong one where people
know, care, and watch out for each other if you help the staff to make
it so. Your community relies on your full participation and involvement.
Each hall offers a wide array of programs and activities to assist you
in your transition to college and FSU. And you will have easy access to
a number of services that can help you maximize the benefits of living
on campus. Consider becoming a hall government leader or a volunteer to
work with activities planned in your hall. If you are unsure about ways
to become involved, your Resident Assistant (RA) can guide you in the
right direction.
Being a responsible member of your hall community requires a commitment
to community standards that exist to maintain an atmosphere supportive
of your academic goals. Please familiarize yourself with the guidelines
that appear in this handbook.
I hope that this will be a very special year for you, one full of new
friendships and academic success. As you meet the challenges ahead, know
that there are many people nearby ready to assist you. Your Resident Assistant
and other staff are here to support you. Let us work with you as you begin
a successful year at Florida State. We’re glad you’re here.
Sincerely,
Rita M. Moser
Director, University Housing
