Receptionists are the initial contact for any person entering
or calling the residence hall between 7:00am and 8:00pm,
7 days a week during the Academic Year. It is the Receptionist
who, in receiving guests and/or telephone calls, creates
an atmosphere of helpfulness, courtesy, and friendliness.
Therefore, it is very important that any person assuming
these responsibilities be very knowledgeable in the specific
functions of his/her job, the general Residence Hall policies,
and programs of the residence hall. Receptionists are additionally
responsible for serving as an information resource about
FSU and University Housing, receiving deliveries, performing
administrative functions, assisting with lock-outs, and supporting
the staff in the event of emergency situations.
Hours are flexible, but all Receptionists should plan to
work both weekday and weekend shifts as available and negotiated
with his/her supervisor. Receptionists should expect to work
the week of official hall opening prior to classes beginning,
finals weeks, and during breaks (Thanksgiving for all halls
and Winter/Spring and intersessions for 12 month Halls – Ragans,
Rogers & McCollum). Meetings throughout the semester,
as announced by supervisor may be necessary. Additionally,
Receptionists may not work more than a total of 40 hours
per week, in combination with any other University-related
employment and may not be employed by any other department
within University Housing. Federal Work Study grants may
be applied to Receptionist positions.
Receptionists are an OPS student position, appointed on
a semesterly basis, as long as job performance is at the
expectation of his/her supervisor. At time of hire and throughout
appointment, Receptionists must maintain a 2.2 undergraduate
or 3.0 graduate GPA and full-time enrolled student status
for the semester requesting employment. All receptionist
applicants are subject to GPA verification, enrollment confirmation,
as well as Florida State University Conduct history check
prior to interview. Applicants may not be under current sanction,
including conduct or disciplinary probation at time of appointment.
