The
Bryan Hall Learning Community is
available to first-year students, and the emphasis is literally
on learning. Each fall, 128 first-year residents attend the
weekly colloquium, where they meet a series of distinguished
and articulate professors from throughout the University. Each
spring, residents have the option of signing up for mentorships:
small groups of Bryan residents who meet an hour each week
with a faculty member to discuss topics that range from "Talking
About Movies" to "You Are What You Remember" to "International
Law". Bryan Hall students will also meet some of their
liberal studies requirements by enrolling in one three-hour
course per semester in a small classroom located in the residence
hall. The in-house classes, special mentor opportunities, and
occasional field trips all assist Bryan residents in experiencing
the benefits of living in a close-knit, supportive community
while getting connected to the resources of a large research
university.
