The Teacher
Learning Community (TLC) located in
Cawthon Hall is available to first-year students who are interested
in, or exploring a career in Education. If you have ever considered
being a teacher, this learning community is the perfect opportunity
for you. The goal of this learning community is to give you a chance
to work with students in schools and the community while creating
a close-knit supportive environment where Freshmen will have the
opportunity to meet other students who are interested in Education.
Together, students will explore the field of education through
courses which include "Service Learning" experiences,
where they work with children in their community as well as a school
setting. These courses are taught in classrooms located within
the residence hall. At least one liberal studies course and two
prerequisite Education courses will be taught. Courses in this
program will focus on issues of diversity and school's responses
to diversity. The Teacher Learning Community is your opportunity
to explore becoming a teacher who makes a difference in a child's
life. To receive information about the Teacher Learning
Community, select "yes" for the appropriate question
on the Housing Agreement.
